Summary:

"In the Carpathian mountains, alive with danger and the unknown, these lifemates must fight to stay together and surrender to desire"-- Provided by publisher.
Stolen from her home at a young age and tormented for centuries, Elisabeta Trigovise has been rescued and is now safe within the Carpathian compound. But she has lived in fear for so long she has no idea how to survive without it. She wants to answer the siren call of her lifemate-- but the very thought terrifies her. Before he found Elisabeta, Ferro Arany was an ancient warrior without emotion. Now that his senses have come alive, he knows it will take more than kind words and soft touches to convince the fractured woman that they are partners, not master and prisoner. But even as she learns to stand on her own, the vampire who kept her captive is desperate to claim her again, threatening the song Elisabeta and Ferro are writing together. -- adapted from jacket

Kidnapped from her family at a young age by an ancient vampire, Elisabeta lacks the ability to function on her own without the rules that had directed her life for so long. Finally rescued from the torture she endured for centuries, she rests in the ground at the Carpathian compound. One day, an ancient Carpathian warrior named Ferro, who has long since lost touch with his own emotions, hears Elisabeta's voice and knows she is his soul mate. Ferro is one of the oldest of his kind and not in tune with modern ways, but he seeks to help Elisabeta break free from her past and to think and act for herself. He also desires her as a partner and knows that to convince her he is worthy mate will take time, patience, and love. The two forge a path forward, all the while knowing that the vampire who abducted her is once again looking for a way to take her back. Though Elisabeta's dependence on Ferro may put off some readers at first, those who stick with the story will be rewarded. VERDICT This latest installment (following Dark Illusion) in an ongoing, beloved paranormal series features all the trademarks of classic Feehan; suspense, passion, and exceptional worldbuilding. A must-read for the author's many fans.--Nanci Milone Hill, M.G. Parker Memorial Lib., Dracut, MA
